Private Patients at Epsomedical units
Epsomedical was set up to provide elective care for patients needing day case treatment in a friendly and convenient setting. It has operated at Epsom for over 20 years and at Cobham for over 10 years. During that time it has built a first class reputation with patients and healthcare professionals. While most patients treated are coming under NHS arrangements, we also see and treat patients paying for their care themselves (self pay) or through insurance (insured).
Self pay
As an operator of facilities designed exclusively for day case procedures, with no overnight beds, we are able to offer very competitive prices for the range of day case treatments available at our units. Prices are inclusive of clinician costs and generally incorporate all foreseeable attendances. However, some exclusions will apply and these will be made clear in the quote we give. A draft of the standard contract for self-pay patient can be viewed
here. Indicative prices for the most common procedures we carry out for self pay patients are shown below:

Insured
Epsomedical is an approved provider for all main medical insurers at both Cobham and Epsom. However, there are exclusions that apply and we may not be able to carry out procedures available to self pay patients for all insured patients. Your consultant will be aware of the limitations and will provide the advice you need. If a theatre procedure is required, the hospital must apply for a pre-authorisation from the relevant insurer. We will contact patients to explain the process which varies depending on the insurer.
Consultations with independent medical practitioners
Not all patients seen as outpatients at our units are Epsomedical patients. We allow clinicians to use our facilities to see their own private patients, and these consultations are private arrangements between the patient and the clinician, as well as any medical insurer. The consultant may ask for proof of insurance cover in advance. Some policies set caps on the amount that can be claimed in any year in respect of consultations: if the cap is breached the patient will be liable for any excess. It is a requirement that patients seen in these circumstances must be quoted prices in writing in advance by the clinician. Any patient not satisfied with the quotations they have received can make a complaint to the Epsomedical compliance manager. This is one of a set of measures put in place by the regulatory authorities to protect the interests of private patients. For the same reasons, we are required to collect feedback from patients on the effectiveness of their treatment and their satisfaction with the care they have received. We would ask patients to cooperate with this worthwhile initiative.
Regulation
Epsomedical is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and is an approved provider of hospital services with a rating of Good. Patients can view CQC reports on Cobham and Epsom Day Surgery
here. Epsomedical submits information to the Private Hospitals’ Information Network (PHIN). This is an organisation set up to provide useful information to patients paying for their own elective care. Performance measures are calculated based on comprehensive data provided by all hospitals and can be viewed by hospital or by consultant. PHIN has been nominated by the regulatory authorities to carry out this function on behalf of consumers. We recommend private patients to visit the website
here. The authorities have also established ISCAS as the body responsible for dealing with complaints of private patients, their website can be found
here.
